Notes: ES Robotics students will try their hands at basic engineering and programming. They will expand their logical and mechanical thinking skills as they work in teams to mastermind the ultimate robot. Students will discover their inner creativity all while developing their ability to troubleshoot dilemmas as they interact with the Lego Mindstorms NXT robots. Parents don’t worry about missing an opportunity to capture your child’s first experience with engineering. There’s a presentation the last day of class where you can “ooh and ahh” over the astonishing creations.
Notes: Physics, Engineering and Design for everyday thinking will be introduced using the Little Big Planet. By incorporating these concepts, students will design, build, test, re-design and re-build Planets based on the specified criteria. Students will learn to exercise their analytical skills as they work cooperatively in teams to implement their newly created planets. And the students will learn and create in a fun gaming environment of Little Big Planet game on Sony’s latest PlayStation 3.
Notes: Students in TECHie Camp: ES Programming will use Scratch, developed the MIT Media Lab, which allows children to learn the concepts of computer programming by using a simple graphical interface. Students will create their own interactive art, interactive stories and games…watch as cars explode after traveling at great speeds or see fire-breathing dragons morph into gorgeous, long-haired fairy princesses who go onto marry the handsome prince! The camp will encourage the students to think about complex ideas and concepts rationally and logically. Why didn’t the dog behave like I wanted? Or, how can I fix that problem so that it doesn’t happen again?
Notes:Through fun and engaging experiences with web authoring and media software, students will learn how to create their own web pages with different media. Students will explore the principals of web development, express their creativity as well as think and process visual ideas and concepts logically. This camp will also excite their imaginative and blossoming minds, challenging them to take full advantage of the future communication and expression platform.
Camp/Activity Name —TECHie Camp: Android App Development
Subject/Content: Technology/Android App Development
Age/Grade level: Middle School (6th – 8th grades)
Type: — day
Length of program: one week
Cost: $350.00

Notes: Android App Development Camp is a hands-on introduction to the Android SDK. Students will explore the buildings blocks, UI, graphics, media and sensors to develop a cell phone app. Students will end the week with the actual publication of an application in the Android Market place. The camp will encourage students to learn by actually building increasingly more sophisticated and meaningful mobile applications for Android phones. Where can I get the best burger in Columbus? I will make an app for that! Who has the newest high top sneakers! I will make an app for that!
Notes: Through fun and engaging experiences with Alice, a 3D programming environment developed by Carnegie Mellon, students will learn how to create their own games and interactive stories to share on the web. The camp will encourage the students to think about complex ideas and concepts rationally and logically while also fostering their creativity.
Notes: Students explore intermediate engineering and programming. They expand their logical and mechanical thinking skills as they work in teams to mastermind the next generation ultimate robot. Students will discover their inner creativity all while developing their ability to troubleshoot dilemmas as they interact with the Lego Mindstorms NXT robots to achieve mastery of robotics.
