Notes: If your child is a nature lover seeking the next level in outdoor exploration, this program will utilize the skills needed to survive in the wild. Explorers will learn life skills such as map reading, hiking, fire building and wilderness survival techniques.  Campers also learn orienteering on a wooded course, learn how to set up a no-trace campsite, and go on an overnight hike to camp out under the stars. The camp also includes a visit to Kord McGuire’s “Heaven’s Corner”, a live animal farm which houses cougars, mountain lions, bobcats, bears, and many more exotic animals. Also included will be a visit to Hueston Woods State Park to hear a naturalist speak about some of the wildlife located at the park’s Nature Center.

Activities: 80-ft. high zipline, rock climbing tower, challenge course, swimming, canoeing, nature hikes, campfires, and more.

Notes: This is the place to stretch the digital boundaries of photography. Campers will use state-of-the-art equipment to shoot digital photos of camp activities, learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and upload photos each day to the PVM website for parents to see. Photos will also be placed on the camp DVD produced that week and made available to all of the campers at the end of that week.

Notes: Saddle up for an exciting learning experience that provides not only loads of fun but also excellent riding instruction. PVM is a member of the Christian Horsemanship Instruction and we will be using the standards of this organization in our curriculum while building skills in all levels of riders, both in the arena and on the trail.

The first morning of camp, each camper participating in this program will be evaluated for their riding skills and enjoy a week of personal challenges based on their experience level.  At the end of the week campers will be certified as to their CHI level of horsemanship.

Welsh Hills Summer Camp

  • Subject/Content: This course will provide the student the opportunity to be both introduced to the fundamentals of engineering and immersed in a robotics experience that will serve as an exciting, popular vehicle for the delivery of those fundamentals.  While the focus will be on robotics, the course will introduce the student to the various engineering disciplines and teach him or her some engineering fundamentals.  These basic engineering topics will include the engineering design process, teamworking skills, engineering drawing and communications, elements of problem solving with computers, simple programming elements and logic, and engineering professionalism and ethics.  Approximately 60% of the available time will be spent with the students in 2- or 3-person teams in the hands-on activities of designing, building, programming, and testing small autonomous robots made from the LEGO™ Mindstorms NXT System kits.  The other portion of the time will be spent on learning engineering fundamentals, touring on-campus University laboratories, doing robotics research, and developing and practicing engineering skills.  An introduction to solid modeling and working with the Autodesk™ Inventor computer-aided design application will be included.  An interactive bridge-building computer application will also be introduced.

  • Kids in College

    Applications for Kids in College are now available.  Kids in College is two weeks of “college” experience (June 14-25, 2010) designed for kids entering the 4th, 5th, or 6th grade in September 2010.  Fun, exciting, hands-on learning experiences, held on a real college campus.  Two learning tracts will be offered.  Exploring the Future deals with creativity, art, self-esteem and exploring personal skills.  Tooling Up for the Future is  technical, scientific program, with strong emphasis on robotics, environmental science, and computers.  There will also be field trips and special events each day.  Cost of the two week program is $320.00.  A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.  For applications, contact Claudia Fowler, 614/287-5961.

    Ecole Francaise Summer Program

    “Island Treasures!” Come discover the treasure of the islands at Ecole Francaise’s Summer Program. Each week will be a new island theme. Campers will discover there are more to islands than beaches & palm trees. Themes like “Message in a Bottle”, “Ships Ahoy!”, “Pirates!”, “Hi Hawaii!” and “Cool Island Living” will excite budding biologists to beachcombers. Campers will make their island discoveries through hands-on activities, excursions, special events and visitors. Picnics and swimming will round out the fun. Come for a week or spend the summer!
