Summer Acceleration Camp

Haugland Learning Center’s Summer Acceleration Camp provides students with academic and social skills instruction to build upon skills learned during the school year and prevent the regression that normally occurs during summer break. All students will be assigned to small groups based on age and ability. All instruction is designed to meet the individual needs of each student. Morning activities will focus on academic needs based on the student’s IEP. Afternoon activities will focus on social and daily living skills with practice in the community once a week. Day camp runs for a 4 week block from Jun 19-July13, from 9 AM–3PM. Cost: $1150 plus a $100 non-refundable fee, due upon registration. Methods of payment: Level 1 Waiver, I/O Waiver, credit card, cash, and checks. Children not currently enrolled in HLC must be assessed to determine if our summer camp is a good fit for them. YMCA Camp Willson

Founded in 1918, YMCA Camp Willson is Central Ohio’s premiere overnight summer camp for Boys and Girls ages 7-17. We offer programs that teach Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Activities include: swimming, water trampoline, cookouts, campfires, high ropes course, rock wall, sports, arts and crafts, survival skills, archery, horseback riding and much, much, more. Program Description:   The sports-minded camper can choose from basketball, cheerleading, football, gymnastics, hockey, soccer, tennis, or track and field.  A week at Smith Farms for the Great Art Getaway will inspire the budding artist.  Those campers who want to learn how to dance will be taught basic to advanced movement within hip hop as well as an infusion of traditional West African style at the Traditional Digital Dance Camp.  And for those who like a little bit of everything, center camps are the choice for you.  Center camps are held at Barnett, Far East, Lazelle, Tuttle, Whetstone and Woodward Park Community Centers.  Even Grandparents aren’t left out – they can spend a week with their grandchildren (ages 8-14) at “Gram and Gramp” camp.

The First Tee Columbus

The First Tee of Columbus is committed to impacting the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

 In an atmosphere where learning is exciting, youth are assisted in the process of developing these traits through peer group-learning, course play, range practice, instructional clinics, motivational workshops, event exposure and educational components. Below is a listing of our 2012 programs.

An introduction to The First Tee Life Skills Experience™. Session length 60 minutes

 Certification: The First tee Life Skills Experience™

The First Tee Life Skills Experience™, a curriculum for teaching character education through life skills, is one of the unique features that differentiate The First Tee from other youth initiatives and junior golf programs. It ultimately strives to instill in participants The First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.

Through the Life Skills Experience™, young people discover how skills essential to success on a golf course can also help them flourish in life. These skills include:

  • Self-management
  • Interpersonal communication
  • Goal setting
  • Mentor
  • Effective conflict resolution

This curriculum was developed by experts in the field of positive youth development and is delivered in or chapter-based program by coaches trained through The First Tee Coach Program. Participants advance through the different Life Skill levels through a certification process with five general requirements: core lesson exposure, life skills application, golf skills application, life skills knowledge, golf knowledge.

 Girls Golf                                                                                                                               

The LPGA/USGA Girls Golf program provides an opportunity for girls, ages 7 to 17, to learn to play golf, build lasting friendships and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment, preparing them for a lifetime of enjoyment with the game. The program includes four (4) two-hour workshops on Monday evening 6:00-8:00PM.

Program Description: Three Day Sport Camp held at the Franklin Park Adventure Center will feature a variety of Adaptive Sports for the beginner through advanced athlete. Our day camps are held at the Franklin Park Adventure Center and Dodge Community Center. Campers will get to experience a little bit of everything including the all time favorite overnight camp out during our Camp-n-Challenge week. Our experienced camp staff embraces each camper’s individuality. The Summer of Fun and Adventure Day Camp creates a safe environment where positive social development occurs and friendships are made.

The Duke University Talent Identification Program offers a variety of summer academic experiences for gifted and talented students in grades seven through twelve. Duke TIP’s Summer Studies Programs are superb academic opportunities and dynamic residential and social experiences for seventh through tenth graders. Notes: Summer Fields is a for-credit residential summer program for high-achieving rising high school juniors and seniors. For three weeks, students pursue rigorous academic study around one theme while living on campus with other high school students in the program. The 2013 program runs from July 8 – July 27. Students earn 4 semester hours of college credit.

Camp Patmos Kelleys Island, OH
